Monkeyshines

My role: Concept . Illustration . Design . Production

One of Tacoma’s quirkiest traditions, Monkeyshines is an annual treasure hunt tied to the Lunar New Year. Traditionally, glass orbs stamped with the year’s zodiac animal are hidden around town by the elusive Ms. Monkey and team, but rogue Monkeyshiners are encouraged to participate.

JayRay’s contributions for the past four years have been coasters embedded with native wildflower seeds that I hand-stamped with my original illustrations, hidden around town and left to flower if not found. They’ve garnered love on social media and even earned a shout-out from Ms. Monkey herself.
